While in the small town of Barberton, Ohio, the young energetic YPWW President, Minister Steven Bennett, felt the Lord’s calling to begin a new ministry. He shared the vision with his pastor, Elder C.M. Laster of Pentecostal Temple Church. With his approval they prayed and asked for the blessings of the Lord to be upon the young church. In the beginning Pastor Bennett was a licensed minister of the Gospel through the Original Glorious Church of God in Christ of the Apostolic Faith, Inc. After organizing the church that body ordained him and consecrated him pastor.

Elder Bennett began the ministry of House of Prayer Christian Center (HOPCC) in May of 1989 with only a vision and a handful of people. The ministry started with only Wednesday evening Bible Study and later went to full services in July 1989. The first church was a storefront located at 10601 E. Warren in Detroit, Michigan. As the years passed, the ministry grew. In January 1995, the Lord birthed a “Nu Vision” in his spirit, a call to another level. This level transformed the church from a non-profit organization known as House of Prayer Christian Center to an ecclesiastical body prophetically spoken to be called HOUSE OF PRAYER & PRAISE MINISTRIES (HOPP).

In May 1996, the church became a part of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship as a spiritual covering, which gave additional governmental structure, leadership and accountability. While a part of this move, Bishop Bennett was elevated and served as the State of Michigan Overseer for the fellowship. Their goal is to change a generation through the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

In 1997 a building project was launched to erect a brand new facility. In December 1998, the work was completed and a dedication of the sanctuary was held on Saturday, December 26, 1998. The address was 5201 French Rd., Detroit, MI, around the corner from the first location sitting on ten lots of property in the community across from Hutchinson Elementary School.

House of Prayer & Praise Ministries outgrew the French Rd. location in less than four years. In May, 2002 House of Prayer & Praise moved to their current location on the west side of Detroit, at 16520 Wyoming.

Because of the heavy Apostolic mantle that rests on Bennett he was elevated to the Episcopal office of the Bishop on May 2, 2009 and from this elevation Christ Harvest Fellowship of Churches (CHFOC) was birthed. Under CHFOC Bishop Bennett fathers and mentors many pastors and churches by providing spiritual covering and accountability for them.

House of Prayer & Praise Ministries is a thriving community of believers with over 33 active ministries, two churches abroad, (1) Tappaluca, Mexico and (2) Ghana South Africa and has birthed many sons and daughters in the gospel and other church plants. As we look over our shoulder we see that this ministry has impacted many lives through church growth, souls saved, community outreach and overseas missions.
February 7, 2015 our founder Bishop Steven Bennett Sr, passed away. We praise God for giving us such a great leader and spiritual father. In May 2015, Pastor Valorie Bennett was installed as Senior Pastor of HOPP and we are so glad that the legacy continues through her. We shall continue to preach the gospel of Christ and lift up the name of Jesus with signs following. THE BEST IS YET TO COME!!! Hallelujah!!!
